National Engineers’ Day is an annual observance in India, marked on September 15, marking the birth anniversary of India’s renowned and greatest engineer, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
Sir Visvesvaraya was born on September 15, 1861, and is largely regarded as the creator of contemporary Indian engineering methods.
It holds significant importance as it acknowledges and celebrates the profound contributions of engineers to society and development.Along with India, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania, these countries commemorate Visvesvaraya’s remarkable works by observing September 15 as Engineer’s Day.
This year, it falls on Monday, September 15, 2025, emphasising how ‘Engineering Excellence Drives India Forward‘, in line with achieving Viksit Bharat 2047, and ensuring progress that is inclusive, sustainable, and transformative, as stated in the PIB.
Engineer’s Day 2025 Theme
The theme for Engineer’s Day 2025 is expected to be “Deep Tech & Engineering Excellence: Driving India’s Techade.” This theme highlights how cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, and sustainable innovations are driving India towards becoming a global leader in technology. It also encourages engineers to focus on excellence, problem-solving, and innovation to address challenges and build a better future.
